You helped me navigate a difficult situation, to step back and think before acting and see it for what it was. Thanks very much for that and please keep being you, we need more people like you in this crazy, mixed-up world we live in.

Many parents worry: “My child has no one to talk to and no positive male role model,” or “She’s brilliant, but seems anxious and disengaged.”Without someone consistently in their corner, children and young people can retreat to screens and begin to doubt themselves. You may notice mood swings, fading enthusiasm for school, or your child pulling away in social situations. This can leave them feeling isolated, and you feeling helpless. You might see:• School avoidance or declining grades• Struggles with transitioning to high school or into employment• Big emotions, shutdowns, or anger that seems to come out of nowhere• Social struggles, loneliness, or feeling “on the outside”• Difficulty making decisions or low motivationIt’s exhausting trying to be the parent, teacher, counsellor, career adviser, and life coach all at once, especially when nothing seems to “click.”Importantly, some children may not show any of these signs. They may simply benefit from having a trusted, positive role model outside the family, someone who listens, encourages, guides, and shows up consistently, a steady 'lighthouse'.You’re not alone.
Mentour sessions are built entirely around your child’s needs, not rigid, classroom-based mentoring programsWe meet at local surf spots, beaches, parks and public locations across the Northern Sunshine Coast, spaces where they can benefit from the natural, outdoor environment, relax, open up, and feel safe being themselves.Through individualised, interest-led activities, we work on:• Soft skills, a growth mindset and emotional regulation• Life skills, self-management and independence• School confidence, motivation and study habits• Academic support through tailored approaches and real-world learning• Building healthy friendships and communication• Career, future goals and aspirations• Simply learning how to be a kind, capable, and well-rounded human. The goal is simple:Beyond the therapist’s office and traditional classroom setting, every child deserves guidance, encouragement, connection, and a trusted adult to help them navigate life’s challenges and unlock their unique strengths and talents.

Connecting while surfing, fishing, walking, or painting outdoors helps children relax, trust, and express themselves safely. I listen first, then guide.
No pressure to “fit the mould.” Instead of rote tutoring, learning is targeted and fun. Whether it’s improving grades with hands-on support or practicing interview technique in the surf, your child will gain practical real-world skills.
Someone steady, kind, and consistent, a mentor who listens, supports, and guides without judgement.

Andy is a big kid in an adult's body. He is able to follow an individual's lead, having a talent to morph into a character that is genuine and compassionate. This ability to be relatable in any given situation is a credit to him. My daughter has been guided by Andy's mentoring, always eager to return and see what adventure awaits. We are incredibly lucky to have met Andy. I would not hesitate in leaving my daughter in Andy's care, for I know that she is in a very safe, competent, and caring space that will support her growth and development.

Many children and young people today have fewer opportunities to practise everyday life skills in real-world settings. While they may be capable academically, they often need support building independence, confidence, and practical competence.I help children and young people develop essential life skills through hands-on, relationship-based experiences. From managing money and preparing food, to planning ahead, regulating emotions, communicating effectively, and following through on commitments, skills are taught in meaningful, age-appropriate ways that connect directly real-world scenarios.

I support children and young people academically in meaningful, engaging ways tailored to their learning style, interests, and abilities. Sessions can align with school curriculum requirements or be adapted for homeschooling families.I connect academic concepts to everyday life, drawing on my background in training, science and mathematics. For younger children, I can integrate primary subjects into mentoring sessions, making learning relevant and engaging, whether calculating ratios while cooking, exploring momentum on a wave, or investigating geometry through bike components.

I help young people develop the skills, confidence, and strategies to prepare for their first job, explore career pathways, and navigate the transition from school to employment. This includes identifying passions and interests, exploring suitable job opportunities, guidance on approaching employers, and creating professional resumes and cover letters, as well as practising interview techniques.I work alongside each young person to set achievable goals, develop practical strategies, and take meaningful steps toward their chosen pathway, helping them step confidently into the workforce or further education.

- Andy, Founder & Mentor (2026)

You’re probably wondering who I am, so here’s a little about me, my journey and how I came to create Mentour.I'm Andy, originally from England. In 1999, at 19, I made the decision to leave my family for a 12-month working holiday. It was daunting at the time, but it’s a choice I’ve never regretted, I didn't go back! Not long after arriving in Australia, I met my wife.I love listening to music, traveling, most sports, cars, baking (muffins & cheesecakes!), surfing, mountain biking, snow-skiing, drinking coffee, and most importantly, spending time with my family and our cat.My early career was spent in the aviation industry. I was fortunate to study an honours degree in aviation technology and management (yes, including a bit of rocket science), and I went on to earn my Private Pilot’s Licence. This path led me to apply for civilian Air Traffic Control in Australia (no, not those people with the ping-pong bats). There’s a saying in aviation that only around 1 to 2% of the population can do the job of an air traffic controller. I joined the other 98 to 99% after not meeting the final milestones of an intense and demanding training program. If you are a controller reading this, you are absolute legends. While that setback could have been the end of the road, it turned into something unexpected. Based on the learning resources I’d developed during my training, I was offered an opportunity to work at the Air Traffic Control Learning Academy. Over the years, I wore many hats in the training space, supporting numerous safety-critical aviation projects. But what stood out most, and what stayed with me, was the human connection. Two mentors, in particular, shaped my professional and personal life in ways they may never fully realise. Despite our paths eventually heading in different directions, we are still in touch today, a reminder of how powerful genuine mentorship and connectedness can be.Somewhere along this journey, in 2013, my wife and I welcomed our son into the world. I won’t speak much about him here, but he is my superhero and has quietly influenced me more than he’ll ever know.
The Turning Point
About five years ago, my passion for the corporate aviation world faded. After nearly two decades in the industry, I stepped away, leaving behind the security of a reliable pay cheque to search for something more meaningful. The challenge was, I didn’t yet know what that “something” was.The years that followed were uncertain and, at times, confronting. I worked across global corporations, national organisations, local businesses, and even returned briefly to air traffic control projects, but the sense of purpose I was searching for never quite landed.Eventually, I looked back at the moments that genuinely filled my cup. Coaching a junior mixed rugby team. Supporting teenagers as a volunteer. Spending time listening, guiding and encouraging young people. These experiences stood out every time.In recent years, I volunteered my time as a youth mentor with an Australia-wide not-for-profit organisation working in high schools. That experience connected all the dots. Working alongside young people, supporting them through uncertainty, confidence challenges, and decision-making, became the catalyst for where I am today. And that’s how Mentour was born.Mentour brings together my life experience, professional background, and passion for training and supporting young people into something truly meaningful. This is my passion project, and it would be a privilege to support you and your child on their journey. You now know a little about me. The next step is for me to get to know you and your child. If Mentour gives you a sense of safety, trust, and genuine excitement, then I’ve shared my vision well.Let's see if we’re the right fit to make magic happen.
